What is Do Not Disturb?

Do Not Disturb(DND) in Android is a feature through which Android users can mute unwanted calls, notifications, and alerts. The android device gives facility to customize the notification, calls, and alerts by selecting Do Not Disturb option. You can also schedule a time period to automatically turn on and off the DND feature on your device.

Do Not Disturb feature is more dominated over keeping your phone in silent mode. Some of the real-time scenarios when Do Not Disturb can be used.

  • DND of a phone can be used while you are present in a meeting.
  • Mute all unwanted calls and notifications except your favorite people.
  • You scheduled mute to notification at night while you are sleeping.

Users can set the DND feature to manage notification with three different levels ofsilence. These are the following:

  • Priority only: You can select to mute everything except people calls, reminders, and events.
  • Alarms only: You can set Do Not Disturb feature to total silence except alarms.
  • Total silence: Using this feature, you can completely mute your phones.

DND provides important notification to get

Do Not Disturb feature keeps your phone to silence; however, it still allows important notification to get. This is performed by customizing the "Priority Only" mode of your phone. To set the "Priority Only" mode,perform the following task:

  1. Launch the device Settings.
  2. Visit at Sound >look at Privacy and security section "Do not disturb"> Priority only allows.
  3. Enable the toggle button on the notifications which you want to get:
    • Messages and Calls.
    • Alarms: Always on "Priority only."
    • Reminders and Events.
    • Repeat callers.

How to use Do Not Disturb (DND)

You can use the DND feature in two different ways. These are manually and automatically. First of all, we will see the manual way which can be used at a random amount of time. You may use it for 15-20 minutes when you are attending a meeting or watching a movie in the theater. This can be enabled in just a few steps.

1. Launch the device Settings

2. Scroll down until you see a Do not disturb feature and tap on it.

4. Your device remains active in DND until you manually turn it offor scheduled

To manually disable the DND feature, turn it off from Settings.

Automatically enable DND

You can also automatically enable and disable the DND feature when you need it. This feature can be usuallyused at night while you sleep. It goes enabled every night at a scheduled time and goes turn off in the morning when your alarm gets off. This can be set up by followings ways:

1. Launch the device Settings

2. Scroll down until you see a Do not disturb feature and tap on it.

4. Enable Scheduled and set the Start time and End time (in some device you get the feature of Weekend, Weeknight, and Event).

Exceptions

There are even exceptions in DND feature. You can set some calls and notifications to contact you even when Do Not Disturb feature is enabled. Exceptions case allows users to white-list some contacts or callers. In the Do Not Disturb settings, you can configure who can contact you exactly even DND is turned on. Tap on the Allowed contacts option and add a contact by clicking on the ADD button.
